SESSION FIVE: FINDING FLOW STATE WITH SHANNON THOMPSON
Psychological science has extensively studied individuals who are present. This form of attention is called flow state (although popular culture often refers to flow state as being “in the zone”). Flow State is most simply defined as 100% focus on the task at hand. When a runner is racing in flow state they often experience some or all of the following:
• Complete concentration
• The body feels like it is performing automatically
• Time transforms (long events seem short and short events seem long)
• There is a sense of control
• There is an absence of self-consciousness
• The experience is fun!
If you’d like to hear about how to cultivate this experience in your running please join us for this talk.
